About April Mawhinney
April Mawhinney was born in Northern Ireland in 1979 and has studied at the University of Ulster, the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in Norway and Winchester School of Art, gaining a BA (hons) degree in Textile Art. She now lives in Hampshire, England.
April has exhibited her artwork in group exhibitions in Belfast, Winchester and London, including the Atrium Gallery in Embankment and Truemans Brewery in Brick Lane. April then worked as a Textile Designer in Northern Ireland.
From a young age April was surrounded by creative people and was always an individual; wearing hand crocheted berets made by her Great-Grandmother and “French knitting” in the school playground. April could knit before she could write; always sewing, creating and knitting quirky “goodies” for herself and friends birthday presents! From the success of these pieces and realising that her obsession lay in fashion, creating accessories, and (most importantly) the colour red; Little Red was born.
Little Red was created out of a passion for vintage design, texture and fuelled by a desire for something individual. Little Red items are all handmade by April and she only creates items that she loves and treasures and hopes you will too!
